Game of Thrones Crew Fascinated by Croatia and Dubrovnik
Early in April this year, the season two of the popular fantasy serial Game of Thrones will begin airing, and in anticipation of the opening night HBO launched a short production film under the title In Production – Croatia, in which the cast and crew discuss their experiences from the Dubrovnik shoot in September and October 2011.
The authors of the serial, writers and executive producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, set designer Tom McCullagh, director Alan Taylor and actress Emilia Clarke openly express their fascination with natural and architectural beauties of Dubrovnik and Croatia. King’s Landing might be the most important single location in the entire show and it has to look right. The minute we started walking around in the walled city, we knew that was it, said Benioff.
Croatia is really fabulous and I really hope we can shoot here for longer next year, said D.B. Weiss. Actor and one of the celebrities of the serial Peter Dinklage is also thrilled with Croatia: Croatia is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been. The people, the food, everything about this place is gorgeous. There is an island over there with the cleanest water I’ve ever seen.
Game of Thrones is a popular adaptation of the fantasy series Song of Ice and Fire by American writer George R.R. Martin. The action takes place in Seven Kingdoms where summers span decades and winters can last a lifetime, and it documents violent struggles within one dynasty for the control of the Iron Throne.
The film set in Croatia that took place last autumn hired a large number of Croatian film professionals and over 1000 extras. The service provider and official HBO partner in Croatia was Zagreb- and Dubrovnik-based company Embassy Films.
