New Awards to Simulacra

The animated film Simulacra by Ivana Bošnjak and Thomas Johnson, produced by Bonobostudio, last weekend garnered awards at two festivals.

At the European Animated Film Festival Balkanima, taking place in Belgrade 7-11 October, Simulacra won the best south-east European film award. The jury consisting of Špela Čadež, Marko Meštrović and Milen Alempijević presented the award to the ‘technically superior puppet film which, using the symbolism of labyrinth and mirror, transcends the primordial drama of man and his alter ego’.

At the International Short Film Festival Sedicicorto, taking place in Forli, Italy, 3-11 October, Simulacra won the best animated film award.

Simulacra is the first professional film by Ivana Bošnjak and Thomas Johnson, made in stop-motion. Since its premiere in April this year, the film was shown at around 30 festivals and has won six awards. The next month Simulacra will be screened at the London International Animated Film Festival, Cinanima International Animated Film Festival in Espinho, Portugal, Zinebi Festival in Bilbao and at the prestigious DOK Leipzig.
