Feature Film Night Boats by Igor Mirković Began Filming
On 28 April 2011 in Zagreb, the filming of the feature live action film Night Boats began. It is directed by Igor Mirković, who also wrote this melodrama together with Elvis Bošnjak and Ognjen Sviličić.
The film stars Ana Karić and the Slovenian theatre great, Radko Polič. They will be joined by Croatian and Serbian actors Pero Kvrgić, Renata Ulmanski, Bogdan Diklić, Jadranka Đokić, Lana Barić, Angel Palašev, while a small cameo role will be played by the famous Jimmy Stanić.
Night Boats is a love story about seventy-year-old ‘teenagers’ who run away from home. They are not running away from parents, they are running away from the inevitable. They fight with their last drops of life for romance, for their last chance to fall in love. This is their last dance, last chance, last romance, last boat to Venice. Helena (Ana Karić) and Jakov (Radko Polič) meet in a nursing home. Where life ends. At the moment when this is not expected to happen, a spark of love appears and they run away from that dismal building. They flee in an unlicensed car, hide from the police, make friends with bikers, sneak into a hotel, buy boat tickets... Love once again proves that there are no boundaries, not even age boundaries.
This is a story about how a soul cannot be retired, this is a film about saving oneself, a battle against everything withering inside of us, said Ana Karić about the film, describing it as the Croatian version of the The Bridges of Madison County.
The head cinematographer working on Night Boats is the professor at the Academy of Dramatic Art in Zagreb, Silvestar Kolbas. The film is produced by Studio dim, a Zagreb production company. The film is made in association with Croatian Television and production companies Bela film from Ljubljana and Delirijum from Belgrade.
The film is co-funded by the Croatian Audiovisual Centre, and supported by Eurimages, MEDIA, the City of Rijeka, Serbian Film Centre, Slovenian Film Centre, Viba film and TV Slovenia.
Night Boats will be filmed for six weeks in Zagreb, Rijeka and on locations around Đurđevac. The Croatian premiere is scheduled for January 2012.
