Two Croatian projects at Eurimages Lab Project Award in Karlovy Vary
The Eurimages Lab Project Award, to be held for the first time at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival on July 4th, will present eight new and promising projects which bring innovation in film form and content. Two Croatian co-productions will be introduced in this festival’s industrial segment: Lying Carpet directed by Željka Suková and Aleš Suk (Croatian co-producer Association UKUS) and Perseverance, the debut feature film by director Miha Knific (Croatian co-producer is Nukleus Film).
The majority Croatian production, the docufiction Lying Carpet, is a Czech Republic and Slovak co-production. Along with directing, Željka Suková and Aleš Suk wrote the screenplay, the producer is Peter Kerekes, the cinematographer is also Aleš Suk, and the music composer is Petr Marek. The film was granted funds from the Croatian Audiovisual Centre for the development of feature documentary film projects. Filming is set to commence at the end of summer, and shooting should wrap in the winter of next year. The production team aims to secure funding necessary for filming and postproduction at the Eurimages Lab Project Award.
The minority co-production, the feature film Perseverance, is a Slovenian-Croatian-Italian-Serbian co-production. Miha Knific wrote and is directing the film, the producer is Siniša Juričić, and the cinematographer is Aljoša Korenčan, while Luka Zima is responsible for music. The film is also supported by the Croatian Audiovisual Centre, and in Karlovy Vary it will try to secure additional funds for sound and picture postproduction. The film is a drama inspired by true events.
The Eurimages Lab Project Award functions on the principle of pitching. The producer or director will have eight minutes to present their project, and the award totals 50 000 EUR. The winning project will be selected by an international jury: Karin Schockweiler (The Film Fund of the Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg), Kim Yutani (Sundance Film Festival) and Meinolf Zurhorst (ARTE).
