Two Bore Lee films presented at BAFICI in Buenos Aires
Two Croatian films from the Bore Lee serial, In the Claws of the Big Z (2003) and Beware of the Sinj Hand (2004) entered the official selection of the 14th BAFICI international independent film festival, taking place 11-22 April in Buenos Aires.
The cult local kung-fu trash classics starring the self-taught actor, director and martial arts master Boris Ivković, known as Bore Lee, were selected for the official festival Late Night programme, presenting low-budget cult films from all over the world.
The programmers of this selection were The Ferroni Brigade, a duo consisting of the German film critic and one of the programmers of the International Short Film festival in Oberhausen Olaf Möller, and Christoph Huber, the film critic of the Austrian daily newspaper Die Presse and one of the editors at Canadian Cinema Scope. Both films were produced by Genijalni Filmovi Productions, and directed by Ivan Ramljak, Mario Kovač and Krešimir Pauk.
Within BAL (BUENOS AIRES LAB), Croatian director Željka Sukova and Brazilian director Gustavo Beck will present their Danish-Croatian-Brazilian project Lambada Fiumana. The project was conceived within the workshop DOX:LAB at last year's CPH:DOX festival in Copenhagen, and was selected for the BAL programme as a result of partnership between DOX:LAB and BAL.
BAFICI is the most important independent film festival in Latin America. It focuses on innovative, convention-defying films. The festival was established in 1999 and in 2011 it attracted record-breaking 300,000 visitors.
Programme details are available on the official festival website.
