These Are the Rules, The Chicken and The High Sun at Les Arcs European Film Festival

The competition of the sixth edition of Les Arcs European Film Festival, taking place 13-20 December in the French Alps, includes the films These Are the Rules, directed by Ognjen Sviličić, and The Chicken, directed by Una Gunjak. The industry section is presenting The High Sun, a new film by Dalibor Matanić.

These Are the Rules competes for the Crystal Arrow Award against another 11 films, including the new works by Susanne Bier and Peter Strickland. The film has so far won seven awards (Venice International Film Festival – Horizons section, Warsaw Film Festival, Cottbus Eastern European Film Festival, Stockholm International Film Festival, Minsk International Film Festival).

The Chicken is a short fiction film by Una Gunjak, made in German-Croatian co-production. The film has so far garnered 21 festival awards – at the recent Bosporus International Film Festival it won the best international short film and best script award, and actress Iman Alibagić won the best actress award. The Chicken is also nominated for the 27th European Film Award in the best short film category. The award ceremony takes place on 13 December in Riga.

The industry section of the festival and its ‘Work in Progress’ programme presents the latest film by Dalibor Matanić The High Sun, covering three love stories, each of which is in fact a story about forbidden love. The film recently got Eurimages support.

Les Arcs European Film Festival with its amount of film and industry programme is currently one of the most important places for the promotion of European cinema and networking of European filmmakers. More information is available on the official festival website.
