The Priest's Children – Best Film at Anniversary Festroia

At the anniversary edition of the Festroia International Film Festival, which took place 6-15 June in Setúbal, Portugal, the comedy The Priest’s Children by Vinko Brešan won the Golden Dolphin Award for best film.

The Priest’s Children, written and directed by Vinko Brešan and based on the namesake play by Mate Matišić, is a story about a young priest, don Fabijan, who starts to pierce holes in packed condoms to increase the birth rate in a small Dalmatian island town.

With over 158 thousand viewers, The Priest’s Children is the most watched Croatian film in the 21st century. Its international premiere took place last year at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival and it was also nominated by the European Film Academy for best comedy in 2013. It recently screened in Brazil, where it achieved the rates of over 30 thousand viewers after nine weeks of distribution.

It was sold in as many as 29 countries on four continents – in July 2014 is starts screening in Denmark, Hungary and South Korea, and in August in the Netherlands.
