The Priest’s Children – the Highest View Rates for a Croatian Feature in the 21st Century
On Sunday, 17 February, Vinko Brešan’s film The Priest’s Children, produced by Interfilm, scored the total view rates in Croatian theatres of 155,139 viewers, making it number one Croatian film in terms of rates in the 21st century.
This score exceeded the total view rates of What's a Man without a Mustache (2005) directed by Hrvoje Hribar, which had more than 150.000 viewers. The film that still holds the record regarding the number of sold tickets is How the War Started on My Island (342,000), by Vinko Brešan (1996).
The Priest’s Children opened in Croatian theatres on 3 January 2013. Already in its first weekend it hit the record-breaking score of 33,759 viewers, making it the best theatre opening of a Croatian film since the independence.
The film’s director Vinko Brešan became the first Croatian director whose three films exceeded the 100,000 viewers benchmark. His 1999 comedy Marshal was seen by 100,908 people.
