In its second week of distribution, the Croatian film Sonja and the Bull attracted more viewers than the animated epic adventure The Rise of the Guardians, as well as the futurist thriller Cloud Atlas by Tom Tykwer and the Wachowskis, which came to the theatres the same week. The world teen blockbuster The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn (in its fourth week of distribution) is three places below Sonja and the Bull.

Once again, Vlatka Vorkapić’s debut film made the best Croatian film box office opening in the last ten years, grossing as much as 301,975 kuna.

I am extremely happy with these results and it is nice to see that the film which waited so long to be made is so well received by the audience. I invite everyone to come and see the film if they haven’t done so yet, said director Vlatka Vorkapić.

Croatia is caught by the Bullmania! The fans calling after Sonja and the Bull are asking questions about The Priest’s Children. One elementary school just called about the date and time when The Mysterious Boy would open. Sonja and the Bull is a comedy about two young people of opposing world views, coming from different backgrounds, whose destinies intertwine thanks to Garonja the bull. Ante (Goran Bogdan) is a country boy from inland Dalmatia, the son of the local bullfight organiser and a skilful insurance salesman, known for his power of persuasion. Sonja (Judita Franković) is a city girl from Zagreb, an adamant animal rights activist.

The film was produced by Interfilm in co-production with Croatian Radio and Television. It was co-funded by the Croatian Audiovisual Centre, while Blitz film & video is in charge of its distribution.
