Naked Island and Ana the Square Win Awards at 8th Cinema City Festival

At the 8th edition of the International Film Festival Cinema City, which took place from 29 June to 5 July on more locations in Novi Sad, Croatian documentary films Naked Island and Ana the Square, as well as the Croatian minority co-production No One’s Child, garnered awards.

The documentary film Naked Island, directed by Tiha K. Gudac and produced by Factum, has won the audience award and a jury special mention in the Fresh Danube Films selection. ‘A special mention in the Fresh Danube Films section goes to the documentary film Naked Island, a debut by Croatian director Tiha K. Gudac, whose investigation of historical facts and family memories of Naked Island in the 1950s managed to tell a very personal and touching, but at the same time informative, politically relevant and universal tale,’ says the jury explanation.

The documentary film Ana the Square, directed by Jelena Novaković and produced by Restart, also won a jury special mention, in the selection ‘Up to 10,000 bucks’, and the Croatian minority co-production No One’s Child by Vuk Ršumović won the best national film award. Actor Denis Murić won a jury special mention for his role in the film.

The 8th edition of International Film Festival Cinema City screened six Croatian majority and minority co-productions. Next to the award-winning films, these also included Josip Lukić’s short feature Devil in Miss Jones and two feature fiction minority co-productions, Circles by Srdan Golubović and Monument to Michael Jackson by Darko Lungulov.
