Eurimages Supports Croatian Co-production Chris the Swiss

The board of directors of Eurimages Foundation at its 135th session, which took place 16-20 June in Sarajevo, decided to support 23 feature-length European co-productions with a total amount of €8,296,000. These are 20 live action films, two animated and one documentary, and among them there is the animated-documentary project Chris the Swiss, whose Croatian co-producer is Nukleus film company.

Chris the Swiss is the feature debut by Swiss director Anja Kofmel in which, by combining documentary film and animated sequences, she explores the death of a 26-year-old Swiss found dead in the uniform of international mercenaries during the war in former Yugoslavia.

The film is produced by Dschoint Ventschr Filmproduktion (Switzerland) and Nukleus film (Croatia), in co-production with ma.ja.de (Germany). Eurimages granted it funds in the value of €290,000. Last year at Animafest, Chris the Swiss won the best project in development at Animafest Pro, and it was supported by the Croatian Audiovisual Centre in the category of co-productions with minority Croatian share at its Public Call for Audiovisual Activities (the term 7 February 2014) with a total of HRK 760,000. In March the film was presented at Cartoon Movie in Lyon, more information available here.

Also, Eurimages supported new projects by Joachim Trier (the director of Oslo, 31 August), Jac Van Dormael (the director of Mr. Nobody), Felix Van Groeningen (the director of this year’s best foreign language film Oscar nominee The Broken Circle Breakdown), the winner of 2010 Berlinale Semih Kaplanoğlu (Honey) and last year’s Cannes winner Abdellatif Kechiche (Blue Is the Warmest Colour).
