Day of Croatian Film and Music in Brussels
The Croatian Composers' Society and the Croatian Audiovisual Centre organize a Day of Croatian Film and Music in Brussels, on Tuesday 24th March, on the occasion of the current Croatia's presidency of the Council of the EU.
In order to present the current state of affairs, as well as plans in Croatian creative industries, the Croatian Composers’ Society and the Croatian Audiovisual Centre have prepared a programme intended for the Members of the European Parliament from Croatia and other EU member states, their assistants and other EU officials.
The programme will include the presentation “Croatia Full of Creativity,” organized by the Croatian Composers’ Society ZAMP service (professional copyright protection service), held in the European Parliament and inaugurated by Dubravka Šuica, the Vice-President-designate for Democracy and Demography. This will be a chance for Croatian and foreign press and all other interested parties to learn more about the strength and potential of Croatian creative industries and the figures in the sector. The event will kick off with a screening of a short informative film, followed by a round table featuring several MEPs, as well as representatives of music and film associations and institutions who will discuss their plans for achieving greater recognisability and wider reach of Croatian talents in the context of European and world audiences.
The panel will also address issues such as the application of the EU Directive on Copyright in the Digital Single Market and the transparency of algorithms employed by global digital platforms, which should represent the so-called small-repertoire countries such as Croatia in equal measure, however, currently this is not the case.
That same afternoon, the Croatian Audiovisual Centre, in collaboration with the European Film Agency Directors - EFAD, will host a cocktail party for members of EU institutions and professional audiovisual associations, as well as members of the Croatian expat community at Cinéma Galeries – Galerie de la Reine. After the party, there will be a screening of the multi-award-winning docu-fiction film directed by Dana Budisavljević, The Diary of Diana B., followed by a short Q&A with the director, moderated by Tamara Tatishvili from the European Women's Audiovisual Network.
The Diary of Diana B. was produced by Zagreb production company Hulahop and created in collaboration with Slovenian production company December and Serbian company This and That Productions. The film was co-financed by the Croatian Audiovisual Centre, the Slovenian Film Centre, the Film Center Serbia, the Croatian Radiotelevision, as well as the MEDIA Sub-programme of Creative Europe and Eurimages. It is a story about a little-known heroine of World War II, an Austrian living a quiet middle-class life in Zagreb. Refusing to shut her eyes to the horrors happening around her, together with a group of friends and associates, she organized the rescue of thousands of Serbian children from concentration camps.
That same evening, the Croatian Composers’ Society and its ZAMP professional copyright protection service will organize a gala Petar Grašo acoustic concert, hosted by the Croatian Member of the European Parliament, Karlo Ressler. The concert is intended for Croatian officers and employees working in EU institutions and officers of the Representation of the Republic of Croatia to the European Union.
