The Trieste International Film Festival will take place from January 20th to 29th. This is one of Italy’s top film festivals, with programmes focusing on new cinematographic trends in Central and Eastern Europe. Along with a rich selection of films, the festival also has an industrial segment, including Eastweek, a scriptwriting workshop, and the co-production forum When East Meets West.

The international feature film competition will include the award-winning On the Other Side by Zrinko Ogresta, which recently began cinema distribution in the Benelux nations, and the minority co-production A Good Wife by Mirjana Karanović.

Competing in the documentary film programme is the Croatian minority co-production Houston, We Have a Problem! by Žiga Virc.

All films competing in these two programmes will have their Italian premieres at the festival.

The short film competition will screen Miroslav Sikavica’s The Beast along with two Croatian minority co-productions: Red Light by Toma Waszarow and Good Luck, Orlo! by Sara Kern. Ghost Town by Marko Dješka and Moving Elements by Marko Tadić will compete in the animated film section.

Born in Trieste, a program which presents films that had their start in the industrial segment of the Trieste Festival, the co-production forum When East Meets West, will screen the documentary film A Two Way Mirror by Katarina Zrinka Matijević. Furthermore, Una Gunjak’s new project, the film Alfa, produced by SCCA/pro.ba (Bosnia) and Nukleus Film (Croatia), will be presented at this year’s forum.

Ognjen Sviličić’s film These Are the Rules will, in cooperation with the Muggia Theatre, be screened in the Special Events programme, while Sieranevada by Cristi Puiu will be featured in the New Romanian Cinema section.
