Croatian films at 35th FilmFestival Cottbus

Croatian films, including several minority co-productions, to screen in various competition programmes and sections at this year’s 35th edition of the FilmFestival Cottbus dedicated to Eastern European film, which takes place from 4 to 9 November.

The fiction feature Beautiful Evening, Beautiful Day, directed and written by Ivona Juka, which recently had its European premiere at the Warsaw Film Festival, will screen as part of the feature film competition. The title is a co-production between Croatia, Canada, Poland, Cyprus, and Bosnia and Herzegovina, while the film’s producer is Anita Juka (4Film).

Also competing in the same section is the feature Our Father of director Goran Stanković, a minority Croatian co-production, co-produced by Marina Andrea Škop (PomPom Films), which had its world premiere at the prestigious Toronto Film Festival.

Appearing in the same competition is the Slovenian title Ida Who Sang So Badly Even the Dead Rose Up and Joined Her in Song, the debut feature directed by Ester Ivakič. The Croatian co-producer is Tena Gojić (Dinaridi film).

The Spectrum section will feature Ivan Ramljak’s multi-award-winning documentary Peacemaker, produced by Factum with Nenad Puhovski as producer. The programme also includes the feature How Come It Is So Green Out Here? by Nikola Ležaić (co-produced by Nukleus Film, Siniša Juričić), which premiered in the Proxima section at this year’s Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. Spectrum also presents to the Cottbus audience the feature-length documentary Dad’s 

Dad's Lullaby, directed by Lesia Diak, co-produced by Hrvoje Osvadić for production company 15th Art Productions.

The Ecoeast section, featuring stories that tackle the relationship between humans and nature, presents to the Cottbus audience the feature-length documentary European Union Wolf, directed by Jadran Boban, and produced by Hulahop (producer Dana Budisavljević). The documentary will have its world premiere in the official competition of the 29th Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival. 

The minority co-production feature Whites Wash at Ninety by Marko Naberšnik, co-produced by Ankica Jurić Tilić (Kinorama) is appearing in the Hits section.
