24th Mecal Pro: Bonobostudio films at Barcelona International Short and Animation Film Festival 

Marko Dješka’a All Those Sensations in My Belly to appear in competition at the 24th Mecal Pro – Barcelona International Short and Animation Film Festival. In addition, the festival will also screen a retrospective of films produced or distributed by Bonobostudio from Zagreb. Mecal Pro is held 24th March – 11th April. 

Marko Dješka’s All Those Sensations in My Belly is screening in the Animated Film competition, while Barcelona audience will have a chance to catch it on 25th March. The film had its world premiere at last year’s Anibar International Animation Festival, winning the award for Best Film in the Balkan competition. Since then, it has screened at a string of festivals around the globe, including the Ottawa International Animation Festival, winning the award for Best Script (Marko Dješka), Valencia in Spain, where it won Best Short, and Manchester Animation Festival, taking home a Special Mention.   

All Those Sensations is an Adriatic Animation production (producer is Draško Ivezić) in co-production with Portuguese animation studio BAP, while Bonobostudio handles the film’s Croatian distribution. 

Production and distribution company Bonobostudio is also the focus of a special programme at Pro Mecal in Barcelona. 

“Their short films have been a constant presence throughout our editions. In this retrospective, we will be able to enjoy a selection of animation works made with a wide variety of techniques and awarded around the world,” announced Pro Mecal organizers.  

The retrospective will screen seven titles: Microcassette – The Smallest Cassette I've Ever Seen directed by Igor Bezinović and Ivana Pipal, Imbued Life created by Ivana Bošnjak and Thomas Johnson, Levitation by Marko Meštrović, Nighthawk by Špela Čadež, Father created by Ivan Bogdanov, Moritz Mayerhofer, Asparuh Petrov, Veljko Popović, Rositsa Raleva and Dmitry Yagodin, as well as Cyclists and She Who Measures both created by Veljko Popović.

The Bonobostudio Retrospective is on the programme on 27th March, while the audience will be able to see it at the Institut français in Barcelona. 

Mecal Pro is a festival devoted to the short film form that has over the years evolved into one of the most important events of its kind in Spain. The festival is strongly committed to promoting the visibility and advancement of short films, not only with the audience, but also among industry professionals who are able to participate in various side programmes. Mecal is dedicated to fostering emerging talent through a variety of events and awards aimed at young authors.
