Croatian films and filmmakers at Clermont-Ferrand 2016

The 38th edition of the International Short Film Festival in Clermont-Ferrand is being held from February 5th to 13th, 2016. Jure Pavlović’s Picnic is screening in the international competition, while Barbara Jukopila, from the production house U Svom Filmu, will participate in the Producers Focus programme, part of Euro Connection. 

‘Picnic’ by Jure Pavlović in International Competition programme

The multiple award-winning Picnic is a film about 15 year-old Emir who, accompanied by a social worker heads to visit his father in a semi-open penitentiary in Igman. Traffic in Sarajevo slows them down and their visit lasts shorter than planned. Jure Pavlović directed the film and co-wrote it with Džejna Avdić. The cinematographer is Almmir Fakić, the editor is Dragan Von Petrovic, and the producers are Luka Venturin and Jure Pavlović of Sekvenca. The film stars Emir Mušić, Aleksandar Seksan and Senad Alihodžić

Last year, Jure Pavlović was one of 14 producers to participate in the Producers Focus programme, part of Euro Connection – the industrial segment of the Clermont-Ferrand Festival. Pavlović presented the activities and projects of Sekvenca Productions, while Picnic was presented a year earlier, in the same programme, as a work in progress. 

The film premiered at the 65th Berlinale in the Generation 14plus programme, and won the European Film Award for Best Short Film. 

Barbara Jukopila at Euro Connection

Euro Connection, the Festival’s industrial segment, is aimed at supporting and developing projects, and connecting film professionals. This year, 14 producers have been selected to present their activities and projects during the Producers Focus programme. Thanks to cooperation with the Creative Europe Desk – MEDIA Office, one of the chosen film professionals is Barbara Jukopila from U Svom Filmu Productions. Barbara Jukopila was born in 1987 in Pula. She has a Master’s degree in Production from the Academy of Dramatic Arts in Zagreb. She produced the feature film Spots, by Aldo Tardozzi, which premiered internationally in the official competition at the Sarajevo Film Festival in 2011. She also produced the short films Chocolate Cake, directed by Dorotea Vučić and Red, by Sonja Tarokić. In 2011 she opened her own production company called U Svom Filmu. She has worked as an assistant director and producer on several local and foreign films including ZG80 by Igor Šeregi, Love Island by Jasmila Žbanić, Penelopa by Ben Ferris, and others. 

The Croatian Audiovisual Centre Booth

For the seventh year in a row, the Croatian Audiovisual Centre is participating the Short Film Market - Marché du film court, the biggest market focused on this film format. It is a place to get insight into the newest national productions from many countries represented at the market. 

At the Croatian Audiovisual Centre booth (no. 23) interested professionals can receive information about contemporary Croatian short film production. In order to promote and distribute Croatian short films, a publication entitled Keep an Eye on Croatian Shorts: Clermont-Ferrand 2016, was issued as is available at the link to the right of this article.
