Skopje, 1941. The city has been occupied by the Germans and their Bulgarian allies. Eleven-year-old Zoran witnesses the horrors of war. While his father is fighting for the Partisan army, his mother gets a job with a German officer Hans in order to save her sister’s husband. Gradually, the two of them grow more intimate.
