During a morning walk a hedgehog finds a beautiful red apple. He takes it to his dwelling and starts to rearrange his home. Meanwhile a squirrel finds the apple and takes it as her own. The two friends start to fight about who the apple actually belongs to. They ask the other woodland creatures to advise them on the situation. After being disappointed over the rabbit's indecisiveness and the bear's greed, the two decide to ask the wood's wisest resident, the owl. She soon realises the apple is one of discord in which a bit of evil lives. She takes care to exorcise it but this means there is not much apple left. But the squirrel and the hedgehog are left happy, that their friendship survived the test.
