Marija was born in Yugoslavia, but she has lived in Croatia most of her life. Her family, on the other hand, still lives Yugoslav values. The film follows Marija as she matures and forms her own identity, unburdened by family taboos and collective heritage. Finally, she decides to start a new life in Sweden.
