It is the summer of 1995, on the eve of the military action that will end the war in Croatia. Boro returns with his wife and son to his native village in Herzegovina to visit his wheelchair-bound brother Petar. It is his first visit home in 8 years. He has fallen out with his father whom he blames for his mother’s death. But history is repeating itself: Boro quarrels constantly with his wife, just as his father did before him. Events force Boro to make peace with his father, wife and son. All this, in part, comes to pass, when Boro’s uncle brings home an unwanted donkey.
