A night somewhere on Earth. Three stories in black and white, each featuring a character of a different race. They drive in the back seat of a car, talking to someone on the phone, preparing to leave this life behind. They believe to be departing towards something new, the "great beyond". The fourth part shows the driver communicating with a force that sends the passengers into the unknown. The motif of escape permeates the film. The sound of an unknown force fades in and out through music and dialogues in a made-up language.
