The filmmaker has transcribed the key ideas in Max Bense’s text Aesthetics and Programming (1968) into the zeroes and ones of binary code, using an animation procedure that involves the raising and lowering of seats in an auditorium. This cryptic confession of the machine anticipates a futuristic virtual reality where all communication is mediated by sequences of bits and bytes. The architecture of the hall influences the perception of space, time and film.
