The Spirits Diary Selected for 16th FIDMarseille

This feature documentary film directed by Damir Čučić is screened in off-competition section Cadence, and the screenings is scheduled for 5 July and will be attended by Boris Poljak, the film’s cinematographer, who will present the film and take part in a Q&A with the audience. The international film festival FIDMarseille in France closes on 6 July.

The Spirits Diary premiered at the 11th edition of ZagrebDox, and depicts illegal spirits production managed by Eric Maria Strom (aka Mario Haber), sound technician and avid spirits manufacturer. More than a decade he was recording conversations and sounds in his house and around the alcohol fermenter, and this film is a reconstruction of these audio recordings, one might say, a ‘film seen with the ears’.

The film was directed, written and edited by Damir Čučić, the cinematographer is Boris Poljak, the producer Vera Rpbić Škarica, and Croatian Film Clubs’ Association is the producer.

This is the French premiere of The Spirits Diary, selected for FIDMarseille’s Ecrans Parallels, and the Cadence section shows films dedicated precisely to sound and music, sharing the freedom of movement in which the ‘Cadence’ is successively maintained or abandoned, all thanks to a series of cuts forming the structure based on the screening’s duration.

This curator of this year’s programme, showing 15 films totally is the French electro-acoustic music composer Gilles Grand.
