The Day My Father Became a Bush best film at European Youth Film Festival
The European Youth Film Festival – JEFF was held from February 19th to March 5th in four Belgian cities: Antwerp, Ghent, Brugges and Courtrai. The minority Croatian co-production The Day My Father Became a Bush, by Dutch film director Nicole Van Kilsdonk, won Best Film and also received the Audience Award.
‘The jury believes this is a contemporary, universal story which addresses actual problems regarding emigration, civil war and immigration, but in a positive and entertaining way, without heavy connotations.’ The award for best film includes 2500 EUR support toward Nicole Van Kilsdonk’s next project. The film also won the Audience Award.
The Day My Father Became a Bush, a feature film co-produced by Croatia’s Nukleus Film, is a story about a girl, Toda, whose grandmother sends her away to a neighboring country after civil war breaks out in the city they live. The story documents how bright and happy Toda deals with the world around her as she searches for her mother.
