Screenplay for House by Sanja Kovačević awarded at the Balkan Fund in Thessaloniki

At the 8th Balkan Script Development Fund which took place from 4 – 6 December 2010 as a part of the 51st Thessaloniki International Film Festival (3 – 12 December 2010), the screenplay for the Croatian feature film House (screenplay Sanja Kovačević, director Zoran Sudar, produced by Mainframe Production) was awarded a development grant, which it will share with the screenplay for Serbian film The Barbarians, written and directed by Ivan Ikić. 

The other two awarded screenplays are September (Greece), screenplay Kallia Papadaki and Penny Panayotopoulou, director Penny Panayotopoulou, and The Last Sleepless (Turkey), written and directed by Ilke Yesilay. Ten scripts from six Southeastern European countries took part in the competition.

Sanja Kovačević has also been awarded a scholarship by the Mediterranean Film Institute – MFI Script 2 Film Workshops.

The Balkan Script Development Fund has been held since 2003. Screenplays for two Croatian films - Dalibor Matanić's Mother of Asphalt and Juraj Lerotić's Mother – have so far been awarded at the Fund and in addition to that, the scripts for Metastases by Branko Schmidt and Some Other Stories, an omnibus film by a group of authors, have received a special mention.
