My Grandpa is an Alien wins 13th award in India

Science fiction film for children My Grandpa is an Alien, directed by Marina Andree Škop and Dražen Žarković and produced by Studio Dim, has won its 13th prize at the Calcutta International Cult Film Festival, where it was awarded Best Family/Children’s Film. 

Feature-length feature My Grandpa is an Alien premiered last year at the International Film Festival for Children, KinoKino, followed by its international premiere at FIFEM – Montreal International Children's Film Festival. The film then screened at the Pula Film Festival, where it scooped its first accolades – the Golden Arena for Best Cinematography (Sven Pepeonik) and the Golden Arena for Special Effects (Krsto Jaram, Michal Struss, Antonio Ilić, Goran Stojnić, MagicLab, Hommage). The film continued its successful festival tour, screening in Poland (Warsaw International Film Festival), Netherlands (Cinekid), Estonia (Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival), Greece (Thessaloniki International Film Festival), Germany (Cottbus Film Festival), Bosnia and Herzegovina (Sarajevo Film Festival), Sweden (BUFF International Film Festival in Malmö), Ukraine (Kiev Molodist International Film Festival) and many others.

The science fiction film for children by Marina Andree Škop and Dražen Žarković, also boast several festival awards, of which its latest, 13th award comes from the Calcutta International Cult Film Festival in India – yearly Golden Fox for Best Family/Children’s Film.

My Grandpa is an Alien was also awarded Best Narrative Feature at FICLAPAZ – La Paz International Film Festival, Best Feature Film at Flicks Film Festival in Great Britain and best film for children at the Near Nazareth Festival in Izrael. It also won the European Children's Film Association (ECFA) award at the Olympia International Children and Youth Film Festival in Greece, which earned it an ECFA nomination for Best European Children’s Film. For her acting debut, Lana Hranjec won the award for Best Actress at the SciFi Film Festival Sydney, while Darija Kulenović Gudan and Marina Andree Škop received awards for Best Producers at the already mentioned Flicks Film Festival. The film was produced by Studio Dim from Zagreb, in collaboration with partners from six other countries (Croatian Radiotelevision, Wady Films from Luxembourg, Filmbin from Norway, Czech companies MasterFilm and MasterLab, Artileria from Slovakia, Senca Studio and Art Rebel 9 from Slovenia and B&H company Fabrika). The script was written by Pavlica Bajsić Brazzoduro and Branko Ružić, based on the motifs from the story My Grandpa is an Alien by Irena Krčelić, while the film was directed by multiple award-winning duo Dražen Žarković and Marina Andree Škop.

In addition to festivals, My Grandpa is an Alien also had a successful theatre run – it was the third most watched Croatian film in local cinemas in 2019, with 29,025 viewers and it had theatrical releases in Slovenia, Czechia, Slovakia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
