Marija's Own in MoMA’s Documentary Fortnight Programme

The film Marija’s Own by Croatian director Željka Sukova will be presented at MoMA’s Documentary Fortnight 2012, taking place in New York City, 16-28 February.

The film Marija’s Own is scheduled for screening on Monday, 27 February, in MoMA’s T3 hall, and as part of the Gala Closing Night programme, on Tuesday, 28 February at 8pm at Nighthawk Cinema in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, where the festival officially closes. The film will be presented by director and writer Željka Sukova and cinematographer and editor Aleš Suk.

Produced by Udruga UKUS from Rijeka, this film is a playful documentary live-action dedication to Željka Sukova’s late grandmother, starring Nina Violić, Željka Sukova and Mila Čuljak, among others. After the premiere at the international documentary film festival Hot Docs in Toronto in April 2011, the film was screened at the International Film Festival in Karlovy Vary, where it won the FEDEORA award (Federation of Film Critics of Europe and the Mediterranean).

The Croatian premiere took place in late October at Zagreb Film Festival. In November it took part in the competition programme of the largest documentary film festival in Scandinavia, CPH:DOX in Copenhagen.

MoMA’s Documentary Fortnight is an international festival dedicated to documentary art films. A two-week event held every year in February was established in 2001. The selection of international feature-length and short titles represents a wide range of creative categories that surpass classical documentary forms. The Documentary Fortnight 2012 programme includes over forty films, complete with filmmaker talks, numerous performances and music shows.
