Marija Škaričić received Shooting Stars award in Berlin

The best young European actors and actresses, among which is Croatian representative Marija Škaričić, were chosen as the Shooting Stars at the award ceremony held on 14 February 2011 in Berlin. This concluded the three-day Shooting Stars 2011 program at this year's 61th Berlin International Film Festival.

Ten talented newcomers were presented to professionals and the public through a three-day program which included meetings with casting directors, photo sessions, a press conference, a gala reception nd a glittering award ceremony. At the closing ceremony, the young actors were received in Berlinale Palast by a member of the jury Heike Makatsch and the acclaimed British actor Ralph Finnes, after which they were presented with the Shooting Stars Award.

Marija Škaričić was selected as one of ten most promising young actors and actresses in the Shooting Stars program by a jury of five esteemed members, and based on her latest role in Dalibor Matanić’s new film Mother of Asphalt (2010).

This is the list the Shooting Stars 2011 award winners: Marija Škaričić (Croatia), Nik Xhelilaj (Albania), Pilou Asbæk (Denmark), Alexander Fehling (Germany), Domhnall Gleeson (Ireland), Natasha Petrovic (Macedonia), Clara Lago (Spain), Alicia Vikander (Sweden), Sylvia Hoeks (The Netherlands), Andrea Riseborough (United Kingdom).

Shooting Stars is an initiative of  European Film Promotion that brings together national film establishments and cinema promotion agencies of the member countries. Croatian Audiovisual Centre (HAVC) has been part of the group since 2009. This year the Shooting Stars program was held for the 14th time in a row. The program aims to present emerging European acting talent and to raise the profile and significance of European film internationally.
