Igor Martinović wins prestigious American Society of Cinematographers Award
For the second year in a row, a Croatian cinematographer has won the most prestigious global cinematographer award. After Vanja Černjul, this year the award for Best Cinematographer in the category of Television Series went to Igor Martinović for the episode Subtle Beast in HBO’s The Night Of. Along with Igor Martinović, Georgian cinematographer Gorka Gómez Andreu won an award for his work on the feature film House of Others, a Georgian-Russian-Spanish-Croatian co-production.
The prestigious 31st ASC Awards were held on Saturday, February 4th, at the Ray Dolby Ballroom in Hollywood.
'Of course, I didn't expect this award, but it's a nice feeling to be recognised by my fellow peers. As a student in Zagreb, I read ASC Magazine and I never dreamt that one day I would be nominated and win an award from such a prestigious organisation,' said Igor Martinović.
Martinović graduated from the Academy of Dramatic Arts in Zagreb and has been living and working in the United States since 1993. His most recognized work is in the Oscar award-winning documentary Man on Wire and the second season of the hit American television series House of Cards. He honed his skills working on numerous short and feature length independent films and documentaries.
Along with Igor Martinović, the ASC Spotlight Award ‘for a feature film screened internationally, at film festivals, or in limited distribution’ went to Georgian cinematographer Gorka Gómez Andreu for his work on the multiple award-winning film House of Others, a Georgian-Russian-Spanish-Croatian co-production. The Croatian co-producer is Dario Domitrović of Embrio Production, who, along with Dušan Maksimovski is the film’s sound engineer.
