Eeva and The Family Portrait nominated for Five Emile European Animation Awards

Two animated shorts – Eeva, created by duo Lucija Mrzljak and Morten Tšinakov, and The Family Portrait directed by Lea Vidaković – have been nominated for the European Animation Awards (Emile Awards) in five different categories. Both films are produced by Adriatic Animation, with Draško Ivezić as producer.

Eeva is nominated in two categories, for Best Backgrounds and Characters in Short Film, and Best Animation in Short Film.

"Huge congratulations to Lucija, Morten, and the entire team! We’re incredibly grateful for the talent and dedication you’ve poured into this project. Special thanks to our partners at Eesti Joonisfilm, especially Kalev Tamm, our dear friend and producer. We also extend our deepest gratitude to Miyu Distribution and everyone who contributed to making this film a success," said the team at Adriatic Animation.

The animations for Eeva were done by Noemi Ribić, Goran Stojnić, Morten Tšinakov and Lucija Mrzljak, who also created the character design.

Since its premiere at PÖFF Shorts in Tallinn, Eeva has screened at numerous important festivals such as the Berlinale, and it was eventually shortlisted for an Oscar nomination.

The stop-motion animated short The Family Portrait, created by Lea Vidaković, has received three Emile nominations in the category of short film, for Best Animation in Short Film, Best Sound Design and Music in Short Film, and Best of the Best Short Film.

The short is again produced by Draško Ivezić of Adriatic Animation, while the co-producers on the project are Jean-Francois Le Corre for Vivement Lundi! (France) and Nikolina Vučetić Zečević for Biberche Productions (Serbia).

The animation was done by Marion le Guillou, Bilitis Levillan and Violette Delvoy, while Zoran Maksimović created the sound design, and Miroslav Jovančić composed the score.

“A big shout out to Lea and her amazing team of animators, as well as the sound and music crew who made this possible. We also extend our thanks to our colleagues at Vivement Lunda!, especially Jean-François Le Corre, for their love and commitment to Lea’s vision, and Nikolina Vučetić Zečević from Biberche for her incredible passion and professional approach. We also deeply appreciate the support from Varicoloured, our fantastic distributor, and the Croatian Audiovisual Centre and the City of Zagreb for their invaluable support", again says the team at Adriatic Animation.

Since its world premiere in Zagreb at last year’s Animafest – World Festival of Animated Film, The Family Portrait has appeared at over 50 festivals, including PÖFF Shorts in Tallinn, DOK Leipzig (Germany), the Ottawa International Animation Festival (Canada), CINÉMED in Montpellier (France) and many others.

The Emile Awards ceremony will take place on 23rd September on the Greek island of Syros. A full list of nominations and other details about the European Animation Awards is available on its official website.

The Emile Awards were launched to celebrate and highlight exceptional works in the field of animation in various categories, with the aim of becoming the central professional award for animation in Europe.

The Emiles reward talent and achievements in animation, from independent animators to animation studios, and the first two editions were held in 2017 and 2018 in Lille, France, honouring animators, storyboard artists, directors, composers, background artists, sound designers, and many more involve in animation filmmaking.
