Screening in the main competition program at 49th FEST in Belgrade is Tereza37, written by Lana Barić and directed by Danilo Šerbedžija. The film had its world premiere at last year’s Pula Film Festival, where it won impressive six Golden Arenas, while its first international foray arrived at the 36th Warsaw Film Festival. Tereza37 has since toured festivals worldwide, and, after Pula, scooped up the Golden Bicycle audience award in the ‘Together Again’ programme at last year’s Zagreb Film Festival. The film is a Focus Media production, with Irena Marković as producer.  

Alongside Tereza37, Dalibor Matanić’s The Dawn is also screening in the main competition at 49th FEST. It is the second instalment of The Sun Trilogy (The High Sun, The Dawn, Sunset). As with The High Sun, Matanić once again wrote the screenplay and directed the film. The film had its world premiere in November 2020, in competition at the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival. The Dawn is a Kinorama production, along with Ascent Film and RAI Cinema, while Ankica Jurić Tilić acts as producer, with Andrea Paris, Matteo Rovere and Ines Vasiljević as co-producers. 

The FEST Focus programme, highlighting bold authorial cinematic acomplishments, will feature Milan Trenc’s Fishing and Fishermen’s Conversations, a cinematic adaptation of Petar Hektorović’s eponymous Renaissance narrative poem, which had its world premiere at last year’s Pula Film Festival, taking home three Golden Arenas. It premiered internationally in competition at the second edition of Gangneung International Film Festival. Fishing and Fishermen’s Conversations is a Studio devet production, with Boris Veličan and Milan Terc as producers.    

Milan Trenc’s film has received the recommendation of the Ministry of Science and Education to be included in the high school curricular cinema going activities for the year 2020/2021.

This year’s FEST in Belgrade is scheduled to run 7th – 16th May, under the slogan “Back to the Future.” Being the biggest and most famous film event in Serbia, its intention is to contribute to a greater return of audiences to the cinema. FEST organizers have said the festival “has always been and should remain the most important segment of the film experience.”

This year, the Belgrade audience will have a chance to enjoy more than 70 international and Serbian premiere screenings organized into seven programme segments taking place at five Belgrade cinemas.
