Croatian minority co-productions win in Trieste

Two Croatian minority co-productions received awards at the 28th Trieste International Film Festival, held from January 20th – 29th. A Good Wife by Mirjana Karanović won Best Feature Film, while Boris Mitić’s In Praise of Nothing, a documentary work in progress, won the HBO Europe Award in the co-production forum When East Meets West.

The international feature film competition is voted on by the audience, and along with the award, Mirjana Karanović also received a prize of 5 000 EUR. A Good Wife is a Nukleus Film co-production.

‘Last Stop Trieste’, part of the co-production forum When East Meets West, held during the festival, awarded Boris Mitić Best Documentary Work in Progress for his film In Praise of Nothing. Mitić took home the HBO Europe Award and a 2 000 EUR cash prize. The film is a Serbian-Croatian-French co-production. The Croatian co-producer is Anti-Apsurd, and the film is set to begin screening in the latter half of this year.

Furthermore, Romanian film director Cristi Puiu was presented the Central European Initiative Award and a cash prize of 3 000 EUR. His latest feature film, Sieranevada, (Croatian co-producer Spiritus Movens), was also screened at the festival.
