Boris Poljak’s short documentary film They Just Come and Go, which chronicles the morning events at legendary Bačvice Beach in Split, will screen in the international competition programme.

Into the Blue, the debut short film by Antoneta Alamat Kusijanović, which received special mention at this year’s Berlinale where it had its world premiere in the Generation 14plus programme, will compete in the children’s and youth programme in Oberhausen.

Also screening in the children and youth programme is the Croatian minority co-production A Well Spent Afternoon. The director is Martin Turk and the Croatian co-producer is Studio Dim.

The organizers believe that short film is still the main source of innovation in film arts, an experimental sector in which future film vocabulary is being developed. Today the global diversity of its form, themes and approach is larger than ever – video or film, short film or essay, installation, thesis works or artistic video projects, documentary film, and all hybrids of the abovementioned.

The Oberhausen International Short Film Festival has been a part of this lively film sector for over 60 years now. During this time, it has been a catalyst of change, a demonstrator of modern development, a forum for intense debate, a showcase for new trends and talent, and one of the most important short film institutions in the world. This claim is supported by the fact that approximately 7 000 films apply to the festival each year. This year’s edition will screen 499 films from 58 countries, and accompanying programmes will host more than 1 100 film professionals.
