This year's edition of Sundance Film Festival, the largest and the most important American independent film festival, features the Croatian minority co-production Circles, directed by Srdan Golubović, with Leon Lučev starring in one of the leading roles and co-produced by Propeler Film from Croatia. Circles are selected for the World Dramatic Competiton together with 11 other films from all over the world. This is the first time that a film from our region is screened in the official selection of this prestigious festival. The film will be screened at January 23rd and 25th on several locations.

After Sundance, Circles will be screened in the Forum programme of the prestigious Berlin International Film Festival. The same selection will also show the Croatian film A Stranger, directed by Bobo Jelčić.

Circles are a contemporary tale of a heroic action and its consequences. Three parallel stories take place in Belgrade, Hale (Germany) and Trebinje, following the characters who, having witnessed events in the past, are motivated to make life-changing decisions. Nebojša (Nebojša Glogovac), who witnessed an event in which his best friend died confronts his best friend’s murderer; Haris (Leon Lučev) owes his life to a hero who made an enormous sacrifice for him, settles the debt by risking everything and helping a woman in peril; while the son of one of the murderers gradually paves the way for overcoming the tragic past.

The film stars Aleksandar Berček, Leon Lučev, Nebojša Glogovac, Hristina Popović, Nikola Rakočević, Vuk Kostić and Boris Isaković. The film is a joint co-production of Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia, Germany and France, the Croatian producer being Boris T. Matić from Propeler Film production company. The film was co-funded by the Croatian Audiovisual Centre and Eurimages.

The short film What Do We Have in Our Pockets by the Croatian-born American-based director Goran Dukić (The Wristcutters) also premiered at Sundance Film Festival 2013 in the Sundance Film Festival Shorts Competition.
