Chintis Lundgren and Draško Ivezić’s feature animation project Saima – Scenes from a Midlife Crisis at CEE Animation Workshop 2024

The feature animation project Saima – Scenes from a Midlife Crisis created by Chintis Lundgren and Draško Ivezić has been selected as one of 12 projects to participate in the CEE Animation, this year taking place online and on-site at locations in Croatia and Lithuania.

The CEE Animation Workshop this year embarks on its sixth edition. After receiving 38 project applications from 26 countries, the workshop will feature 12 projects from 13 countries.

Saima – Scenes from a Midlife Crisis is a project directed, written and animated by Chintis Lundgren and Draško Ivezić. The feature-length animation is part of the same universe as the other award-winning shorts created by the same creative duo: Toomas Beneath the Valley of the Wild Wolves, Manivald and Life with Herman H. Rott, as well as the animated series in development – Manivald and the Absinthe Rabbits.

This time, the film centres on fox Saima, Manivald’s mother, on her journey of exploration and self-realisation, as she struggles with her partner Ludvig’s infidelity and the deteriorating relationship with her mother.

The project is produced by Croatian studio Adriatic Animation (of producer Draško Ivezić) and Estonian Animatsioniostuudio (of producer Chintis Lundgren), with the support of the Croatian Audiovisual Centre and the Estonian Film Institute and Culture Capital from Estonia.

The CEE Animation Workshop is a year-long programme intended for producers of animated films and their creative teams from countries with low production capacity. The 2024 edition of the workshop consists of four intensive modules during which participants will gain knowledge about project development, marketing and distribution, financial and legal aspects of work and international co-productions.

Two modules will be held online and two live on-site. The first is currently underway (26th February – 3rd March), taking place in Vilnius, Lithuania. The second residential module will be held in Croatia, from 29th July to 4th August, at a location announced at a later date. The last module is organised online and is scheduled for October 2024.

The CEE Animation Workshop 2024 is held with the support of the Lithuanian Film Centre, the Croatian Audiovisual Centre and the Ministry of Public Administration of Slovenia.
