Andrea Slaviček’s debut feature project Luna on Two Planets at Cannes Film Festival residency

Director and screenwriter Andrea Slaviček is one of only six participants to have the opportunity to develop their first or second feature in Paris, and then present the project at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival in May 2024. Slaviček will participate in the 46th Résidence of the Festival de Cannes with her debut feature-length, Luna on Two Planets.

“Being selected for the residency is an exceptional opportunity, so I’m very pleased that I will be surrounded by talented filmmakers, and have the opportunity to work on my script with excellent mentors. This is great timing for the current phase of the project, to work on the script before starting pre-production. The residency includes meetings and pitching at various A festivals, as well as Cannes, which will greatly help with including international collaborators that I’d like to have on the project”, said Andrea Slaviček on the occasion of being selected for the Résidence of the Festival de Cannes.

At the Résidence, Slaviček will develop the script for her feature-length debut, Luna on Two Planets.

The project offers a glimpse into the world of photography, exhibition and performance, often blurring the borders between reality, reflexion and art. It portrays Luna, juggling between different mundane daily tasks and the ones of her dreams, as well as love and an occasional encounter with a surreal visitor.

The Cannes Film Festival Résidence takes place in the heart of Paris and runs four and a half months, from 1st October to 15th February 2024. Since its founding in 2000, the Résidence has played host to over 250 filmmakers from around 60 countries. The candidate selection is based on the quality of their previously directed short or first feature films, the project they are currently developing, and their motivation.

“This year, five female directors and one male director stood out from the rest. All of them have a desire to develop their project at the Résidence, by taking advantage of this living space and of the prestige of the institution and the city of Paris, which is a mythical site of creation in the history of cinema. We’ve seen from the past that all this resonates with them and delivers on the promise”, said Résidence director, Stéphanie Lamome.

More details about the residency are available on this link, as well as on the official website of the Cannes Film Festival.

Andrea Slaviček is a filmmaker, screenwriter, and designer born in Zagreb in 1990. She studied film direction at the ESCAC in Barcelona, where she made several Spanish-production short films. After working in Spain, she directed the short The Real Truth about the Fight, produced in Croatia, which was selected for the 62nd Semaine de la Critique in Cannes. The film was later screened at many international festivals. At the moment she is developing her debut feature, Luna on Two Planets, supported by the Croatian Audiovisual Centre for script development.
