Ana the Square and Veruda – A Film About Bojan at AmDocs Film Festival in the USA
The documentary films Ana the Square, directed by Jelena Novaković and Veruda – A Film About Bojan by Igor Bezinović will be screened in the official international competition of the AmDocs Film Festival which will be held from March 30th to April 4th in Palm Springs, California.
Ana the Square is about a religious souvenirs saleswoman who has been selling religious calendars and rosaries for 40 years in front of a church. The film won the Golden Medal for Best Documentary Film at the 63rd Belgrade Documentary and Short Film Festival. The film is written and directed by Jelena Novaković, the cinematographer is Wolfram Huke, the editor is Hrvoslava Brkušić, and the producers are Vanja Jambrović and Oliver Sertić. The film is produced by Restart, and it will be having its North American premiere at AmDocs.
Also premiering at the festival is the multiple award-winning Veruda – A Film About Bojan. This documentary is about 24 year-old Bojan who spent four and a half years of his life in prisons in Turopolje, Sisak, Glina, Remetinec, Pula, Zagreb and Rijeka. The film is directed by Igor Bezinović who also co-wrote the film with Leon Rizmaul and Slobodan Uzelac. The cinematographer is Tomislav Trumbetaš, the editor is Hrvoslava Brkušić, and the producers are Leon Rizmaul, Robert Tomić Zuber and Vedran Bilić. The film is produced by Croatian Radio Television (HRT).
The AmDocs Film Festival has been an annual event since 2012. Though it is relatively ‘young’, it has positioned itself as an important place for filmmakers from around the globe. This year, within six days, it will screen 150 films (81 of which are premieres) from 35 countries.
