Accidental Luxuriance of the Translucent Watery Rebus nominated for International Press Academy Satellite Award

Experimental-animated feature Accidental Luxuriance of the Translucent Watery Rebus, directed by Dalibor Barić, has been nominated for the Satellite Award for best film in the category of feature animated or mixed media international film. The Satellite Awards are offered by the International Press Academy (IPA), while Barić’s film is in the running alongside five other titles from around the world. The Satellite Award winners will be announced on 15th February.

“This is wonderful news! I am very happy about the nomination and aware of the importance of the Satellite Awards, but I would not want to speculate about the outcome,” said on the occasion the film’s director Dalibor Barić

The International Press Academy (IPA) has announced the nominations for the 25th Satellite Awards in 35 categories, including the one dedicated to animated and mixed media feature films, which features Accidental Luxuriance of the Translucent Watery Rebus, directed by Dalibor Barić and produced by Ivan Katić (Kaos). The same category presents highly lauded titles from across the globe, including this year’s Pixar and Disney production Soul, also in the running for an Oscar nomination.

Each year, the International Press Academy selects the best international titles that were available to journalists during a designated period via specialized screenings, film festivals or screeners. The aim of the awards is to celebrate the works of renowned as well as independent up-and-coming filmmakers, lending them an opportunity to reach a wider, global audience.

US film critic Robin Menken commented on Rebus’s Satellite Award nomination:

“Accidental Luxuriance of the Translucent Watery Rebus is a pop-art influenced paranoid metafiction, with noir, advert art, photo collage and surreal roots, which makes it look gorgeous, mesmerizing. Dalibor Barić’s very original work has tapped into the peculiar zeitgeist of this chaotic moment in human history. This is a lyrical, philosophical, paranoid speculative metafiction, spiced with a dialectic about aesthetics. It is solarized, rotoscoped and exquisitely composed. With this recent announcement Barić’s film is in an award season trifecta, the Oscars, the Annies and now the Satellite Awards.”

Accidental Luxuriance of the Translucent Watery Rebus is one of the 27 titles in the running for an Oscar nomination in the category of Animated Feature at the 93rd Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Awards.
