158th meeting of Eurimages to be held in Zagreb
The 158th Board of Management meeting of Eurimages, the Council of Europe’s fund for the support of co-production, distribution and promotion of European filmmaking will be held in Zagreb, from 16th to 20th March, 2020.
Eurimages was founded in 1989 and today numbers 38 of the 47 member states of the Strasbourg-based Organisation, plus Argentina and Canada as associate members. Its aim is to foster the development of the European film industry through film co-productions, theatrical distribution and exhibition, as well as through establishing cooperation between film professionals.
The regular Eurimages Board of Management meeting was last held in Croatia in 2004, a year after Croatia’s joining and four years before the creation of the Croatian Audiovisual Centre.
Since its inception, Eurimages has supported 2,047 co-productions with a total amount of 597 million euro, among which 51 Croatian projects were supported with a total of 10 million euro. Some of the excellent projects that have received funds in the last three years are: The Diary of Diana B. directed by Dana Budisavljević and produced by Hulahop, What a Country! directed by Vinko Brešan and produced by Interfilm, as well as Kinorama productions The Dawn, directed by Dalibor Matanić, and Illyricvm by Simon Bogojević Narath. Among the Croatian minority co-productions that have received support are: Heavens Above, directed by Srđan Dragojević with Studio Dim as the Croatian co-producer, as well as minority co-production Mare by director Andrea Štaka and production company Dinaridi Film, and three minority co-productions of the company Spiritus Movens: The Son directed by Ines Tanović, Stitches directed by Miroslav Terzić and God Exists, Her Name Is Petrunya by director Teona Strugar Mitevska. The production company with two supported projects is Propeler Film and these are The Barefoot Emperor by directing duo Peter Brosens and Jessica Woodworth, and Father by director Srdan Golubović.

At the European Film Awards, the award ceremony of the European Film Academy, held in December 2019 in Berlin, the prestigious Eurimages Co-production Award was presented to Croatian film producer Ankica Jurić Tilić.
As part of the Eurimages meeting, an event consisting of a film screening and panel discussion will be held on 18th March, at 19. 30h, at Tuškanac cinema in Zagreb. At the panel discussion on the topic of gender equality in the audiovisual sector, Sanja Ravlić, former representative of Croatia in Eurimages and the first president of the Eurimages working group for gender equality, and film director Katarina Zrinka Matijević speaking on gender equality on behalf of the Croatian Film Directors' Guild, will present a comparative study on the number and percentage of women in the film industry in the EU and Croatia. The talk will be followed by the screening of the film The Diary of Diana B which also received Eurimages support. After the film, there will be a talk with the author and the producers of the film, Dana Budisavljević. The event is open to the public.
The Eurimages Board of Management meeting in Zagreb is hosted by the Croatian Audiovisual Centre (HAVC). In it, the delegates of member countries will decide on the allocation of funds for film production and distribution support for 2020. The Croatian delegate is Davor Švaić, Vice-Dean for International and Interinstitutional Cooperation of the Academy of Dramatic Arts and a member of HAVC Managing Board.
