Outside the Frame: Focus on Contemporary Croatian Cinema in Brussels
The programme Outside the Frame: Focus on Contemporary Croatian Cinema was screened as part of the Brussels International Film Festival, which took place from 3rd – 13th September 2020, and consisted of four Mediterranean stories told from the perspective of young authors.
Outside the Frame: Focus on Contemporary Croatian Cinema is a stylistically and genre-diverse program composed of works by a generation of authors born during the 1980s who engage with local cinematic genres (Mediterranean comedies, coming of age stories) and social issues (gender expectations, the transformation of the nuclear family, the relationship between tradition and modernity, generational portraits) through fresh and contemporary perspectives.
What connects them is the setting: each selected film is set in the Mediterranean, with landscapes, tradition and history contributing to the atmosphere, characters and story in different ways.
The programme Outside the Frame: Focus on Contemporary Croatian Cinema was a part of a series of cultural events organized to commemorate the Croatian Presidency of the Council of the European Union, jointly organized by the Croatian Audiovisual Centre, the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Croatia and BOZAR Centre for Fine Arts in Brussels.
