41t Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival 2019

The 41st Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival will run from February 1st to 9th, 2019. Competing in the international competition is animated film Cyclists by Veljko Popović, while Snail the Painter by Manuela Vladić-Maštruk will compete in the youth film category. Also, Daniel Šuljić’s film From Under Which Rock Did They Crawl Out is one of six films in the online selection.

International Competition: Cyclists

Multi-award winning animated film Cyclists, directed by Veljko Popović, is a comedy spiced with eroticism and summer colours, capturing the spirit of a small Mediterranean town and inspired by the works of Vasko Lipovac. The animators are Goran Stojnić, Chloe Roux, Lucija Bužančić, Sander Joon and Mario Vrandečić, while compositing is by Sina Jakelic, Gordan Mihalec and Darko Kokić. Music is by Pablo Pico, Siniša Jakelić and Nikola Džaja, and the sound designer is Jean-Baptiste Saint Pol. The producers are Milivoj Popović and Veljko Popović (Lemonade 3D), and co-producers are Patrick Hernandez (Bagan Films) and Lado Skorin (3D2D Animatori). The film is co-financed by the Croatian Audiovisual Centre, and is a Croatian-French co-production. Bonobostudio (Zagreb) is the film’s distributor. To date, Cyclists has screened at numerous festivals and has won a number of awards around the globe. It was voted best film in the Croatian Film Competition at last year’s Animafest.

 Snail the Painter, From Under Which Rock Did They Crawl Out and  Short Film Market

The animated educational film Snail the Painter by writer and director Manuela Vladić-Maštruko is competing in the ECO 1 programme for children 3 and up.

With its simple storyline, where the main characters are snails, the film introduces children to colours. The snails crawl over coloured patches and mixing them create new colours. The animators are Darko Vidačković, Iva Božić and Lucija Bužančić. Besides writing the script and directing the film, Vladić-Maštruko is also the film’s editor and designer. Sound is by Vjeran Šalamon, and music is by Šimun Matišić. The film is produced by Vinko Brešan and Zagreb Film.

From Under Which Rock Did They Crawl Out, written and directed by Daniel Šuljić, is one of six films competing in the online selection of the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival. All films are available for viewing on the festival’s official website, and voting runs until noon on February 8th. The winner will receive a 500 EUR cash prize.

The film From Under Which Rock Did They Crawl Out is about evil bugs and other creatures who feel the time has come for them to crawl out of their holes and hiding places and spread out across the world. Besides writing and directing the film, Daniel Šuljić is also one of the animators along with Dea Jagić, Ira Bulić, and Valent Balun with whom he also did compositing and editing. Sound and music is by Vjeran Šalamon. The film is produced by Igor Grubić (Kreativni Sindikat) and co-produced by Vinko Brešan (Zagreb Film), with support from the Croatian Audiovisual Centre and the City of Zagreb.

Clermont-Ferrand also hosts the largest short film market, Marché du film court, welcoming producers, distributers, festival programmers and buyers interested in short film. It is also a place to gain insight into the latest productions from numerous countries exhibiting at the market. Information regarding contemporary Croatian short film productions will be available at the Croatian Audiovisual Centre’s stand. New Croatian Features & Shorts was published as a means to promote Croatian film.
