One of the biggest crimes from the Croatian War of Independence, not well known to the general public, occurred on October 13, 1991 in the Lika village of Široka Kula near Gospić. 33 Croats were killed in the culmination of the maltreatment of Croats by their Serbian neighbours over a period of several months. Nobody has been held responsible for those crimes to this day.
