Almost overnight, the building of the Austro-Hungarian grammar school was converted into a museum to house the items of the controversial art collector Ante Topić Mimara. The nickname "Louvre of Zagreb" testifies to the hope that was put in this project. Today, the Louvre of Zagreb is mostly empty, and visitors are scarce. However, commercial events such as fashion shows, art auctions, book promotions and county club gatherings record good turnouts. The classical Austro-Hungarian architecture becomes an ideal setting for kitsch events of all sorts.
