The poet and art historian Igor Zidić (87) had only just finished a nearly thousand-page monograph on the painter Vlaho Bukovac, and the very next morning, he sat back down at his desk and began working on his next, equally extensive book. This time, it is a monograph on Emanuel Vidović, a renowned painter from Split, whose works bring Zidić back to his childhood. In a time when local culture is fighting a losing battle with globalisation, when newer generations read less and less, and the book as a medium is slowly dying out, Zidić refuses to give up and dedicates himself to his work with quixotic persistence.
