The film follows Tatjana, a somewhat lonely Croatian-born director and single mother who has lived all over Europe before ending up in Amsterdam. Fifteen years later, her teenage son is ashamed of his strange mother with a terrible Slavic accent, who lacks Dutch restraint. But it’s an old problem: Tatjana has always felt like a foreigner everywhere. Determined to finally find the golden grail of belonging, she visits friends and relatives scattered across Europe and asks them how it’s done. Along the way, she encounters different fates and attempts to fit in, until she finally confronts the cause of her non-belonging.
