The Brave Adventures of a Little Shoemaker – the most watched Croatian children’s fiction film
In just 18 days The Brave Adventures of a Little Shoemaker became the most watched Croatian children’s fiction film since the independence – seen by the total of 84,762 viewers.
The Brave Adventures of a Little Shoemaker, live action adaptation of Croatian classic Šegrt Hlapić, in the first 18 days since the opening (7-24 November) attracted as many as 84,762 viewers, scoring the top position on the list of the most watched children’s films since 1990. The only children’s film that attained better rates is the animated adaptation of the same book - Lapitch the Little Shoemaker (1997), with almost 220 thousand viewers.
The first weekend Little Shoemaker attracted 21,693 viewers and the second only slightly less – 20,648 – and 16,229 in the third. The results exceeded the recent children’s hits, Koko and the Ghosts and The Mysterious Boy, with over 70 thousand viewers, and it could reach the score of the two most watched Croatian films in the 21st century – The Priest’s Children and What Is a Man Without a Moustache.
The Brave Adventures of a Little Shoemaker were adapted and directed by Silvije Petranović and are starring the 13-year-old Mile Biljanović in the title role. Gita is played by Ena Lulić and Majstor Mrkonja by Goran Navojec. The film was produced by Maydi Film and co-funded by the Croatian Audiovisual Centre. The distributer is Blitz film & video.
