  • Vox Feminae Festival

    Location: Zagreb

    Vox Feminae Festival is an international and transdisciplinary festival that focuses on promoting local and international female artists and/or groups of artists who explore the clash of contemporary art, urban and alternative culture and gender issues as well as gender-sensitive social engagement in their work. Vox Feminae Festival was founded in 2006 with the aim of promoting and increasing the visibility of women's artistic achievements through the international competition film program, exhibitions and performances as well as workshops and other educational content. Vox Feminae Festival presents and rewards films of all genres, and topics include  gender equality, women's creativity and achievements, non-stereotypical gender roles and relationships, as well as feminist and LGBTIQ themes. Vox Feminae Festival is organized by the Expanse of Gender and Media Culture 'Common Zone'.

  • Subversive Film Festival

    Location: Zagreb
    Festival dates: 15 – 28 May, 2022 | 15th edition

    Subversive Film Festival is a joint project of various disciplines and media: film, visual arts and critical theory, aiming to explore and understand recent cultural history. Each annual edition is specifically themed, addressing key historical processes or turning points and subsequent politically, economically and socially relevant issue(s). The former are being exposed both through cinematic and artistic practices, but also through critical commentaries given on the conference alongside, thus bringing together leading intellectuals of various disciplinary profiles and social identities.

  • VAFI & RAFI – International Children and Youth Animation Film Festival

    Location: Rijeka, Varaždin
    Festival dates: May 26 – 28 (Rijeka); June 2 – 5, 2022 (Varaždin) | 13th edition

    VAFI & RAFI is a festival of animated films devoted to children and youth. The festival has two sections – VAFI section in Varaždin (animated movies made by children and youth) and RAFI section in Rijeka (animated movies for children and youth). From the 3rd edition, the festival also has a special category called BLUE VAFI for which the prizes are given in cooperation with the Office of the Ombudsman for Children and UNICEF in Croatia, for the movie which promotes the Children's rights. Since its 10th edition, the web portal medijskapismenost.hr has been included in the jury of BLUE VAFI. Every year, the festival has a Partner country and the program is dedicated through promoting variety and richness through animated films. On the 13th edition of the festival partner is Czech Republic.

  • Cherry Pop Film Festival

     1st Edition

    The Cherry Pop Film Festival seeks to promote open dialogue about all aspects of human sexuality through the medium of film. The Festival features the International Program which has for its theme sexuality and the Regional Student Program, which is not thematically defined and screens films by students of the region. The Festival is organized by the Academic Film Club and FPS Media.

  • FUSE – Film Under Severe Experiment

    Film Under Severe Experiment - FUSE is an international festival of short experimental fiction films organized by Cinema Club Karlovac. The competitors are young authors between 18 and 29. The festival is held at MalaScena HD in Karlovac, Croatia. Besides screenings, FUSE provides workshops, round tables, entertainment program, etc. Awards are: Grand Prix, Award for the Best Director, Award for the Best DOP, Award for the Best Editor, Audience Award.

  • Animafest Zagreb

    Location: Zagreb
    Festival dates: 6 – 11 June, 2022 |
    32nd Edition

    The World Festival of Animated Film – Animafest Zagreb, founded in 1972, is the second oldest film festival that is entirely devoted to animation and one of the world’s most important animated film festivals. The festival takes place each year in early June. With over 400 films, symposium on contemporary animation studies, presentations, exhibitions, lectures and workshops, the festival provides a comprehensive insight into contemporary animated production and celebrates its rich tradition. The winner of Animafest’s Short Film Grand Prix directly qualifies for the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Science's Oscar Awards. Winners in all competition categories qualify for Annie Award and European Animation Award Emile.

  • Mediterranean Film Festival Split

    Location: Split
    Festival dates: 16 – 25 June, 2022 | 15th Edition

    Mediterranean Film Festival Split takes place annually in June in the city of Split, the second-largest city in Croatia. Festival's focus are feature and short fiction and documentary films from Mediterranean countries. Besides feature films, great attention is dedicated to the program of short films and the promotion of young authors and their work. Festival also organizes lectures, workshops, exhibitions, and other side events. In 12 years of its existence, the Festival has become the most visited cultural event in the city of Split. Kino Mediteran project is also part of the FMFS. It is a network of cinemas in 30 small Croatian coastal towns, mostly on islands.

  • Croatian One-Minute Film Festival 

    Location: Požega
    Festival dates: June 22 – 26, 2022 | 30th Edition

    Croatian One-Minute Film Festival is the oldest international film festival established in the Republic of Croatia. The festival fosters a specific form – one minute which is, no matter of genre, very challenging and encouraging for filmmakers' creativity. Films from the festival's programme "Join Us For A Minute" have been presented to UNESCO ambassadors in Paris in 2004 and so far in 30 cities in more than 20 countries on 3 continents as well as numerous Croatian cities and festivals. The Official Programme of the festival will be shown on June 24, 2022 at several locations in Požega. During the festival days, a selection of one-minute films from the previous editions will be screened, as well as an exhibition of photographs and one of the highlights of the festival - the international film quiz for filmmakers and guests. In addition, a half-day excursion for all the guest will be organized.

    This year we are introducing a new competition - Category B for one-minute promotional tourist films, inviting filmakers to present their town/city, district or country. All the filmmakers who will not be able to attend the festival will be offered to watch the Offical programme online.

  • Fantastic Zagreb Film Festival

    Fantastic Zagreb is the largest festival of fantastic and genre film in the region screening science fiction, thriller, horror, fantasy, action and animation premieres from around the globe as well as cult genre classics. The festival, which takes place at Summer stage Tuškanac and Cinema Tuškanac Cinema, is organized by Robot 22 d.o.o. and Udruga Rudolf.

  • Pula Film Festival

    Location: Pula
    Festival dates: 16 – 23 July, 2022 | 69th Edition

    Pula Film Festival is one of the oldest ongoing film festivals in Europe and the world. Launched in 1954 as the main festival of Yugoslav films, Pula Film Festival became Croatia’s national film festival in 1992. Its main competition programme includes feature fiction films. Alongside other city locations, the festival’s programme takes place in Pula’s amphitheatre, popularly called the Arena. It is organised by the Pula Film Festival public institution.

  • Motovun Film Festival

    Location: Motovun

    Motovun Film Festival is dedicated to films made within small film industries and by independent productions. The programme consists of feature and short fiction and documentary films.   • Postira Seaside Film Festival

    Location: Postira, Brač
    Festival dates: July 26 – 30, 2022 | 12th Edition

    Postira Seaside Film Festival is devoted to short fiction films featured in an international competition programme and a Croatian non-competition programme. The festival was initiated in 2011 by a group of film enthusiasts brought together by two associations from Postira, Brač: Lanterna Magica and Unikat. Their goal is to enrich the local cultural offering.

  • Liburnia Film Festival

    Location: Open Air Theatre, Opatija
    Festival dates: 22 – 26 August, 2022 | 20th Edition

    Liburnia Film Festival is the first documentary film festival in Croatia and the only festival exclusively screening recent Croatian documentaries. The festival is comprised of two competition programmes – the National programme and the Regional programme, and gives seven awards: Best Film, Audience Award, Best Director, Best Cinematographer, Best Editor, Best Sound Design and Best Regional Film. LFF is organized by Association Liburnia Film Festival from Rijeka, in cooperation with Restart from Zagreb.

    The Star Film Fest is a film festival for young filmmakers from around the world. The festival screens short documentaries, experimental, feature, industrial and animated films, and the authors who apply for films must be adults and not older than thirty-five years.   • Split Film Festival – International Festival of New Film

    Location: Split
    Festival dates: 1 – 9 September, 2022 | 27th Edition

    The Split Film Festival – International Festival of New Film focuses on new, creative, experimental, radical, and subversive films, videos and new media works. It screens all forms and genres, with special focus on works diverging from the mainstream film and video production model, regardless of whether it concerns traditional filmmaking techniques or the use of the most recent digital technology. The competition programme is divided into two parts: feature films and shorts. The festival’s side programme presents web projects, interactive works, performances, special programmes and retrospectives of local and international filmmakers.

  • Youth Film Festival and Four River Film Festival

    The Youth Film Festival is a festival screening films produced by high-school children, i.e. young people between the ages of 14 and 20. The Four River Film Festival is its international edition, also geared towards high-school film.

  • 25 FPS Festival

    Location: Zagreb
    Festival dates: 22– 25 September, 2022 | 18th Edition

    25 FPS Festival is an international experimental film and video festival, primarily oriented towards short film. It screens films which innovatively explore the possibilities of cinematic language, narration and the medium itself, cross film types and genres and broaden the notion of film as art. It promotes expressive original concepts, progresses in terms of theme, idea and aesthetics, as well as works that perpetuate the tradition of artists', avant-garde and experimental film. Main festival sections are: Competition Programme, Jury's Choice, Expanded Cinema, Reflexes, Kino 23. International Grand Jury hands out three Grand Prix prizes in cash (ex aequo) and Special Mentions, Critics Jury Critics Award, festival organizer an award in production services to the best Croatian film, and Audience Award is selected according to audience votes.

  • Croatian Children's Film Festival

    Location: Mali Lošinj
    Festival dates: September 29 – October 2, 2022 | 60th Edition

    The Croatian Children’s Film Festival is Croatia’s only event devoted to film creation of elementary school children. Every year, the festival takes place in a new city.

  • KIKI – International film festival for children

    Location: Zabok, Krapina
    Festival dates: 10 – 14 October, 2022 | 11th Edition

    During the KIKI program professional feature films, documentaries, animated and experimental shorts for children and youth will be screened, and the program is divided according to age into films for pre-school children (4 – 6 years of age) and school-age children (7 – 16 years of age). After the screenings talks about the films will be organized with the children, the aim of which is developing an active film audience. The aim of the KIKI festival is developing the children’s culture of film watching from an early age and raising the visual literacy of children, with a special emphasis on educational films which inspire critical thinking.

  • Zagreb Film Festival

    Location: Zagreb
    Festival dates: 23 – 30 October, 2022 | 20th Edition

    Zagreb Film Festival is one of the central and most visited cultural events, and the largest international film festival in Croatia. It is held during November in Zagreb and presents to its audience the best of newer independent international and local film production. From its beginnings, ZFF’s mission is to discover and promote contemporary independent film and debut films of directors from all over the world. For almost two decades, it has offered a festival, and later also a distribution platform, and it has screened works which are often left out of the programs of multiplex cinemas. The festival has also played a key role in educating generations of audiences which enjoy film art. The festival program offers a diverse film and educational content for all ages and interests, and serves as a platform for the networking of professionals: each edition of the festival gathers around 200 film experts from Croatia and around the world who come to Zagreb to present their films or participate in the festival’s educational programs.

  • STIFF – Student International Film Festival

    Location: Rijeka
    Festival dates: November 25 – 28, 2022 | 9th Edition

    STIFF is Croatia’s first International Film Festival dedicated entirely to student films. Established by the SKC Rijeka (Student Cultural Center) and Filmaktiv – the purpose of the festival is strengthening the student film industry by allowing an insight into the work of other fellow student filmmakers, encouraging the development of new ideas and establishing international collaborations in the field of media production. STIFF’s main goal is to present the best of the student film production from all around the world and help them get their audiences. It strives to educate audiences about the quality of work of emerging filmmakers.

  • Fibula – Documentary Film Festival

    Location: Sisak
    Festival dates: November 28 – 29, 2022 | 17th Edition

    Documentary film festival Fibula has been bringing together the sound directors  names of documentaries, both from Croatia and abroad. In 2022 it will be held at the end of November, and it is common for the filmmakers to present their film, and to offer viewers the opportunity to talk to them, as well as to decide the festival winner.

  • Human Rights Film Festival

    Location: Zagreb, Rijeka
    Festival dates: 4 – 11 December, 2022 | 20th Edition

    The Human Rights Film Festival was initiated in 2002 with the goal of increasing visibility of various topics on human rights issues in film. Taking place in Zagreb and Rijeka every December, the festival showcases a programme of feature and documentary films that promote openness, multiculturalism, tolerance and freedom of speech. It is organized by the Multimedia Institute and the Culture Development Association (CDA).

  • Vukovar Film Festival – Danube region film festival 

    Location: Vukovar, Borovo Naselje
    Festival dates: Summer, 2022 | 16th Edition

    Vukovar Film Festival screens films from the Danube and neighbouring countries – Slovenia, Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Montenegro, Czech Republic, Greece, Croatia, Hungary, Moldavia, Germany, Romania, Slovakia, Serbia and Ukraine. It is the only festival that takes place literally on the Danube. The competition programme accepts feature, short fiction and documentary films and the jury hands out awards for all three categories. The festival is organised by Discovery Film, the City of Vukovar, and the Croatian House of Vukovar.
