Documentary film follows two men from a Slavonian settlement Rajevo Selo. Tomislav and Joso are in their 50s and we find them living without their wives. Mostly in search of means for a better life, these women went to work abroad a few years ago. Abroad, they found new partners and moved there permanently. They are still married to their wives, but the marriage is realized only on paper.The director who is also the narrator and the protagonists of the film is Tomislav’s daughter. The story begins with her coming to her birth place to visit her lonely father and to find answers.

Every year, thousands of minor refugee children embark on uncertain and risky journeys, searching for safety on their own. To escape military recruitment and death, a fourteen-year-old boy flees from war-torn Aleppo with one goal – to become a support for his family, for whom he is the only hope of salvation. An unaccompanied minor refugee wanders along the dangerous Balkan route from Syria to Germany, seeking sanctuary while facing brutal realities and social injustices, exposing himself to difficult and inhumane conditions. In a Croatian transit camp, Khaled finds protection and support with volunteer Ena-Sanan. Despite adversities, bullying, isolation, cultural hurdles – he persists, driven by a dream of family reunification. On his journey, Khaled faces trials that transform him from a vulnerable boy into a beacon of hope for his family. After a long struggle, they manage to reach Turkey, where they spend several years in suspense and hope, striving to reunite with their eldest son and build a brighter future. As Khaled nears his 18th birthday, legal complexities threaten to derail his mission.

Father and son poets embark on a quest to figure out what hides between the lines of their relationship while exploring their bloodline and an old family myth of a possible kinship with the Hollywood legend. Recollecting their past home, which now exists only in old VHS tapes, Luka and Željko take a trip down memory lane, while also setting out on a path to discovering what the future holds for them. As they connect the dots of their family tree, a mash-up of very different characters is introduced, including a book-van librarian, an old farmer, a John Malkovich double from Croatia, and people from all over the world whose last name is Malković. But, digging up one’s family history always carries a certain risk – will father and son lose their relationship while trying to improve it?

The feature-length documentary BUKOVAC – Light, Roots and Wings follows the arrival of renowned painter Vlaho Bukovac in Zagreb in 1893, in the aftermath of the devastating 1880 earthquake. At the turn of the century, the city was rebuilding and growing into a cultural center, with Bukovac significantly shaping its artistic life. He founded the Society of Croatian Artists, initiated the Zagreb Colorful School, contributed to the construction of the Art Pavilion, and painted three monumental national compositions. Through archival materials, expert testimonies and contemporary parallels, the film connects Bukovac’s work with the identity of Zagreb and Croatia. It focuses on five years in which the artist’s vision and the city’s transformation became inseparably intertwined.

Over 36.000 admissions in Croatian cinemas! A group of children on the Adriatic island of Trs, led by newcomer Karlo, discover a lost African boy, Chiku, at the lighthouse. As they try to help him return home, local boy Bumbar opposes Karlo's unusual pseudo-scientific experiments. During a heated argument, Bumbar hits Karlo, losing the trust of the group. However, he redeems himself by helping to expose a smuggler trafficking children from Africa to the European Union, who tries to take Chiku away from them. The summer adventure concludes with the capture of the smuggler, bringing the group closer together.

A community of creatures lives happily in a garden, each with their own role to play. Their interconnected tasks create a cycle – and all require water from the fountain. But when a butterfly gets stuck in the fountain and blocks the water from flowing, the creatures become anxious and unsure of their roles. Working together, they find new ways to do their old tasks, using milk instead. Once the new rhythm takes hold, the butterfly flies away and water starts flowing again. With both cycles continuing, the garden now explodes with life, with more colors, sights and sounds than ever before.

To address this international issue, the most prominent residents devise a cunning plan, one that cannot be executed without harming some innocent victims.

With uncharted dreams in tow, the Young Sailor and his Roommate are the only newcomers aboard a ship with an old, already established crew. They are slowly acclimating to the new way of life and peculiarities of their fellow crew members when, suddenly, one day the Roommate falls overboard. The stormy sea almost immediately swallows him, and no one from the crew attempts to help. The Young Sailor is left alone, forced to drag him out of the water.Yet this endeavor proves to be futile, as the cruel sea returns that very same night to reclaim what she believes rightfully belongs to her.The Young Sailor is left alone and isolated, shunned by the crew for the act of saving someone. But the journey is not yet over, and there are only so many places to be on a single ship.

There are a number of helpers from the youth and beauty industry – beauticians, perfumery saleswomen, promoters of cosmetic preparations, personal trainers, plastic surgeons… These are all people who make money from our discontent, on provoking our self-questioning and at the end on our self-loathing. In today’s narcissistic culture, old age becomes undesirable and old people almost invisible. We live in a paradox – we want to live longer and at the same time we do not want to grow old. The story that begins with our faces in the mirror closes with the reverse of our desire for youth.

The locals of the island of Ilovik are fighting against the illegal construction project of the Mrtvaška port, which threatened to disrupt their daily lives and force them to move out. By uncovering the documents and illegalities behind the project, they are exposing the deep connection between local, county and state structures in implementing harmful “projects”. Their fight is becoming an example of resistance and defense of the values, environment and future of small communities. The documentary tells the story of the determined struggle of the residents of the island of Ilovik against the illegal project to build the Mrtvaška port, which threatened to completely disrupt their daily lives, access to school, a doctor and basic needs, and would ultimately lead to the emigration of the entire island. Mrtvaška Bay, the only safe connection of the residents of Ilovik with Lošinj and the administrative center, was the key to the survival of the community, and the planned two-year closure and construction of a waterfront too high for their boats to dock would mean the physical cutting off of the island. During almost two years of struggle, the residents have collected a wealth of documents that expose illegal actions in the preparation and implementation of the project, as well as a network of cooperation between different political levels — from the state to the local — with the intention of forcibly implementing the project. The experience of the residents of Ilovik testifies not only to the courage of a small community, but also to the need to oppose “apparent projects” that destroy the environment, landscape and values ​​of Croatian society.

Maks Pinter, a successful Zagreb lawyer, managed to get the charges for double murder against his client, the rich and powerful Dinko Horvat, dropped. At the celebration party, Maks is drunk and tells Dinko he killed the workers, who only came asking about their salaries, in cold blood. The confrontation with one of the pillars of society makes Maks an undesirable person, he loses his partner and clients, and his wife leaves him. With his university-days girlfriend Nina, he embarks on a revenge mission. On the other hand, no one in this story is entirely innocent and everyone is tightly connected.

The life story and artistic career of Borivoj Dovniković Bordo were shaped by historical shifts in epochal socio-political systems. These shifts, from the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, the Independent State of Croatia, socialist Yugoslavia, to the Republic of Croatia, are clearly discernible in the work of this world-renowned animator, whom film critics have called the Advocate of the Common Man. Through autobiographical testimonies and reinterpretations of his works, the author’s life is brought into direct connection with his ingeniously lavish artistic achievements, comics, animated films and caricatures, with a special emphasis on the timeless animation etude about his notable piece Learning to Walk. In constant conflict with socio-political precepts and natural laws, Bordo speaks about the freedom of creativity and seeks an answer to the eternal question; is there a systematic environment in which we really and truly walk or do we walk lamely, as his universal hero does.

The film chronicles the adventure of Slobodan Dado Velikić, the first sailor from Rijeka to cross the Atlantic solo. Dado takes on one of the world's most challenging single-handed races – the Minitransat, a grueling 4,500-mile journey across open ocean from Europe to America. His tiny 6.5-meter boat, Sisa II, becomes his home, his universe, and his only refuge between sky and endless sea. The camera serves as his ship's log, capturing a life stripped down to its essence: wind, waves, exhaustion, and the inevitable confrontation with oneself.

So far, Željko Špoljar has published collections of stories "Teškoće pri gutanju", "Moj brat Felix Krull", and "Welcome to Croatia" in co-authorship with Kristijan Vujičić, for which he received the Kiklop award in 2006. Thanks to the novel "Gumeni galeb", Špoljar won the Matica Hrvatska Osijek contest for the best unpublished prose text in 2007. In 2014, he published the novel "Štakorbar" (Drago Gervais Literary Award), while in 2020 he published his last novel - "Petokoronaš". On the other hand, Pavle Svirac published the novels: "Literary Groupie", "Strovaljivanje", and "Kako biti hipster". Svirac has also been a columnist (“Nacional”) for several years, famous for the series of literary records "Šta se čita na jarunskoj nudističkoj plaži" and "Interlibdžija diary", while his Književna Groupie Facebook page currently has over 13,000 followers. The film follows Željko's relationship with Svirac as a personality, his relationship with his ex-wife Maja Hrgović (who until recently worked as a spokeswoman for the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Croatia, and since then as a taxi driver in Split) as well as his relationships with his daughter Nora, family, society, culture, publishing houses and the editor-in-chief of “Nacional”. Through all this, Špoljar/Svirac not only talks about domestic social dilemmas, problems, and conflicts, but also about himself as one of the most interesting phenomena of the contemporary Croatian cultural scene, in the context of local history, not so rare, "misfit" protagonists.

'Looping' is a film about a man lost in space and time. Franjo, the main character, goes through a series of unfortunate events: a midlife crisis leads to the end of his marriage, and shortly after the divorce, his best friend passes away. All of this is exacerbated by his unacknowledged alcoholism, which causes Franjo to lose touch with reality and live in a loop. He roams deserted streets at night, always starting from a bar and eventually returning to the same one.

"Masked Cloud" is documentary that follows the talented, famous Croatian guitarist Srđan Bulat, during the summer, the challenging year of 2021, when the measures against the COVID-19 pandemic were at their peak.  Srđan's last name, which means "cloud," becomes a symbol of the times we live in, where masks have become a daily reality. Srđan uses his music as a means of connection and expression. The film follows his performances, revealing how art can break through barriers, even in the most difficult times. Through Srđan's eyes and the sounds of his guitar, viewers will experience the power of music that unites people, provides hope and brings joy, despite physical obstacles and social distance.

The traditional Baranja Carnival procession is held every year in February. On this occasion, the locals dress up as "lipe" (good spirits) and "ružne buše" (ugly masks). The "lipe" wear traditional Šokac folk costumes, hiding their faces beneath veils or lace, while the "ružne" wear animal pelts and horned wooden masks. The custom of chasing winter out of the village is traditionally followed by both the young and the old. So does Marta, a 15-year old girl on the brink of adolescence and sexual maturation. For the carnival, even those who don't come to the village so often arrive. So does Karlo, Marta's childhood friend. Their reunion will awaken forgotten childhood crushes, and every subsequent moment between them will suddenly turn into an unpredictable game of confusing hot and cold adolescent signals.

After the death of 12 Croatian police officers in Borovo Selo, several enthusiasts took over the radio station, which at that time was in the service of Serbian propaganda. The filmmaker and protagonist of the film, Sunčica, is a vet on a journey across the Croatian coast and its islands where she neuters stray cats with a team of activists and another vet. She is convinced she is helping the animals until she is confronted with arguments of an animal right activist who claims that castrators like her, in addition to immediate mutilation, are doing long-term damage to cats and to the ecosystem in general. Sunčica begins to question the ethics of her work, especially as she faces a surgical procedure on her own body.

Silvestar has for some time been the oldest Kolbas in his family. His parents are dead; his father died before the war, his mother a few years back. He is 68. He had a younger brother, who died from the consequences of the war. This is his second marriage. He has three children: Jakov, from his first marriage; Eva, from his second marriage, conceived in vitro; Ante, adopted from an orphanage when he was 8. Some of the questions the director asks in this film are: How the children affect the feelings and opinions, as well as the relationship between himself and his wife? How does he affect each child? What is his relationship with a particular child, and does he give them all equal amounts of love? Do children change him? Does each of them do it differently? How do the children see him and his wife and how do they see their attitude to themselves?

Ivan Faktor decided to visualize his state with Parkinson's disease with a mobile phone camera. After 50 years of filmmaking, his passion for art and life persists. He is filming himself, his wife, the yard, the street, the studio, and the light attractions in his house. Faktor records everydaylife but disrupts the daily structure by intervening, in reality, using light or optical obstacles like his trembling fingers. Through interventions in documentary situations, he creates a surprising inner world of an artist imprisoned in space.

Pula Film Festival 2025 - Winner!  In 1991, on the outskirts of Tenja, Josip Reihl Kir - the chief of the Osijek Police Department, a man dedicated to negotiations and avoding war - was assassinated. Peacemaker is a story about the last few months of his life, in the dawn of the bloodthirsty Croatian-Serbian war, which Kir had been trying hard to prevent, told through the statements of a few witnesses and archive materials from the era. Still today, after over 30 years, many elements of that assassination remain unclear and the possible contractors - still unknown. Filmmaker Ivan Ramljak is one of the most significant Croatian documentarians, recognisable for his particular approach to historic issues.

During the first days of the Russian full-scale invasion of Ukraine, film director Oleh Sentsov joined the Ukrainian Defence Forces. In his role as an army lieutenant, he took part in a number of intensive battles - and during one, his BMP was destroyed by Russian artillery. In the aftermath, he  became embedded in nearby trenches and tried to organize via radio the evacuation of part of his unit. All the while his men were under  consistent attack, and eventually ran out of ammunition, making their evacuation all the more urgent. This military event on the Ukrainian-Russian front line positions was given the code name Real. This is the name of the film.

In this post-apocalypse landscape, which today is inhabited by loud seagulls, half-starved cats and crayfish, we are caught up with the emotional testimonies of former workers. This film pays homage to all of the families whose members were linked to this shipyard for generations.

Due to the long-standing process of restructuring and privatization, political interventions and the governing structures' corrupting malfeasances, the workers of the 3. maj (3rd of May) shipyard stayed at home without pay for a full year, and the production facility went silent. That moment of silence in a facility that is usually filled with sound is the starting point for the portrayal of a specific space and time. Revealing the beauty of the spatial and auditory narratives of an industrial space, in the absence of workers and work processes, contextualizes the frightening socio-economic consequences of the “silence” and “emptiness” phenomena. After months-long negotiations in the fall of 2019, production continues with an uncertain future.

Who would I be if I weren’t who I am? The strength of the mind and the ability to see the direction of one’s own purpose and to persist in realizing our full potential are the central themes of this documentary film, which forces the concept of physical paralysis to bow before the power of human spirit, will, and vision. Dino Sinovčić is a Croatian national paraswimming and wheelchair basketball athlete. He was born with arthrogryposis, a condition that caused his disability. Upbringing, willpower, effort, and investment in personal development led this young man from Split to professional sports and numerous medals, despite difficult medical forecasts. It all started in a children's swimming pool, and by 2009 Dino had won a European bronze medal, continuing on his path toward gold in the 100m backstroke. He set his sights on the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, postponed to 2021, where he won a bronze medal in September. At the 2024 Paralympic Games, he carried the Croatian flag and won another medal. Stop Me If You Can is a film dedicated to the extraordinary strength of the human being. It follows the obstacles, psychological challenges, and personal dilemmas faced by Dino, his parents, and the professionals who support his mental and physical health, all in his pursuit of becoming the best version of himself — personally, physically, and athletically.

In a peaceful, but mysterious forest, a mother and a son live in harmony, until a strange serpent sneaks up on them, disturbing their peace. The serpent turns into a beautiful maiden and seduces the dim-witted son. Mother then goes into the forest to search for Stribor, a forest god, and ask him for help. However, when she finds him, things start to develop in an unexpected way and mother must gather all her courage and strength to save her son. This lighthearted interpretation of the story of Ivana Brlić-Mažuranić plays with tradition and gives the original story a dark, but comical twist.

When Bobo starts planning his life with Simona, the sex-chat line operators realize that their correspondence has gone too far because it is ruining the stranger's life. But it turns out Bobo hasn’t been on the level with them either…

The film opens with a disturbing home video from the mid-1990s. We see Mate (31), a middle-aged man, forcing his young son, Zvone, to jump off a high pier into the sea, despite his wife Vesna's protests. The film fast-forwards to the present day, where Zvone, now an adult, is struggling to care for his aging and increasingly demented father, Mate, and his young son, Duje. Haunted by his traumatic childhood, Zvone finds himself trapped in a cycle of caregiving and guilt. When Mate goes missing, Zvone is forced to confront the unresolved trauma of his past. As he searches for his father, he realizes that the trauma of his childhood continues to shape his present. The film explores themes of family, trauma, and the enduring effects of violence. Through the lens of Zvone's story, we see how the past can continue to haunt us, and how the bonds of family can be both a source of strength and a cause of great pain.

A boy spends the holidays visiting his grandparents in the countryside, where he is confronted with the harsh realities of rural life. Bored with the slow pace, his grandfather teaches him how to shoot an air rifle to scare birds away from his crops. Although he initially enjoys the game, it leads him to his first difficult decision in life.

Those few hours will shake his world and make him question everything that he was raised to believe in.

Ottoman forces led by Bosnian Beylerbey Hasan-pasha Predojevic attacked the Sisak fortress in 1593. Habsburg coalition forces came to relieve the siege and battle commenced on June 22th 1593. The battle ended in utter Ottoman defeat and ended a century-long "small war" that tore apart the Croatian and Slavonian kingdoms, now under the rule of Habsburg and the Holy Roman Empire.
