Karlovac 1991, Croatian War of Independence. Three members of the Croatian army accidentally kill a Serbian civilian in Karlovac, whose house they came to 'just' blow up, and kidnap his daughter as a witness to the murder. Police inspector Barbir quickly tracks them down, but a relative of one of the perpetrators of the crime is a prominent political functionary and hospital primarius Matić, who tries to cover up the case. At the same time, the journalist Lidija also guesses who the killers are, and one of them is the brother of her boyfriend Krešo, a demobilized Croatian soldier who has just returned from the hospital without one of his legs.
