During work on the town square, the excavator Hektor comes across some unusual stones and, encouraged by Baltazar’s advice, begins studying history and archaeology. Through careful excavation, he discovers an ancient palace beneath the town hall, and the townspeople join him in digging. Professor Baltazar then comes up with a solution and creates a two-level square, bringing the past and present together, while Hektor becomes an honorary citizen of Balthazartown.
