Twenty-two-year-old Iva lives with her mother, Davorka, in a cramped apartment where there is little room to breathe—physically or emotionally. Crude, stubborn, and fiercely overprotective, Davorka's love is expressed through constant control, while Iva silently longs for independence. Their claustrophobic coexistence reveals a painful mutual dependence: Iva cannot break free from her mother's grip, and Davorka cannot imagine a life without her daughter. Iva struggles with debilitating panic attacks that Davorka dismisses as something a single Valium can fix. Desperate to regain control over her body and mind, Iva clings to running, exercise, and carefully constructed rituals. But her mother continually intrudes, unable to recognize the invisible battle her daughter is fighting.
